Obituary of Carmela Noorigian

Carmela Luciano Noorigan of Paterson, NJ died on Tuesday, May 26, 2015. She was 94. Carmela was born in Paterson on August 24, 1920, the third of five sisters. Carmela worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II, building airplane engines for the Curtiss-Wright Corporation. An active member of Blessed Sacrament Church, she volunteered weekly to help count the financial offerings and participated in the church’s Leisure Club as its membership officer. Carmela enjoyed gardening and would always put in at least two dozen tomato plants each year with great results. Carmela was predeceased by her parents, Luigi and Lucia Luciano; her husband, Aram Noorigian; and her two older sisters, Louise Luciano Testa and Josephine Luciano Silvestri. She is survived by her sisters, Dora Luciano and Gelsomina Luciano Costagliola; her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Fred Gunzel; her grandchildren, Lucia Gunzel and Rick and Krista Gunzel; her great-grandson, Britton Gunzel; and her nieces and nephews. Funeral from DeLuccia - Lozito Funeral Home, 265 Belmont Avenue, Haledon, NJ on Friday at 10 AM. Funeral liturgy at St. James of the Marches R.C. Church, Totowa, NJ at 11 AM. Interment, Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Paterson. Visiting Thursday from 3-7 PM.
