Mema - I think of you everyday - there are so many times when I think back on advice you gave me, laughs we had or moments that only you could truly relate to. I wish that you could be here with us to celebrate the joys and challenges of each and every day - to watch our children learn and grow and be there with a listening ear when we need to talk, laugh or cry. I know that you are with us - I see you in our children, in our memories and in our hearts. As I promised, I am watching over Dad, Dee & Andrew, Bert and those kiddies. I love you, Mema, no matter how much time passes - you will always be on my mind and in my heart. your loving daughter in law, Patrice.

Every girl has heard – when you meet a man that you think you want to marry – check to see how he treats his mother and that is how he will treat you. Anyone who knew Robert and his mother – knew that he loved her with all his heart – and Shirley – she loved him unconditionally. She always told me – you will never know what it is to truly love – until you have a child. I have a greater appreciation for that now.
In all of the memories that Robert has shared with me and those that I have witnessed – there is one constant message – Shirley loved her family – she was there for them as wife, mother, friend, cheerleader, confidant – whatever type of support they needed – she was there - fighting for them / laughing with them and always loving them.
Most women are not lucky enough to find a friend and a kindred spirit in their mother in law. I am blessed to have found true family in Shirley – I can think of many times when we laughed and when we cried together –when we had honest truthful talks.
Robert has always been a man a few words – and the truth is – there are no words to describe the loss that we are feeling; yet, I will always remember the lessons she taught me without even realizing it …
… How to embrace each day,
… To always march to your own drummer,
… The magic of comfort food,
… How to stand by your man and love him without question
… The unconditional love that a mother shares with her child
… And how to be the rock of the family.
Although Sabrina may be young – she has been very loved and cherished by her Grandma Shirl. My Gram passed away when I was a little girl – and we spoke about her everyday – so to me, she still lives in my heart and my mind. Robert and I will tell Sabrina about her Grandma Shirl – and she will learn to cherish those memories knowing that her Grandma is in Heaven watching over her – protecting her and loving her – her own special guardian angel.
We will miss you Mema and we love you so very very much.
Mema - I will watch over Dad, Dee, Robert and Sabrnia for you - please watch over us from heaven.

To Shirl
Warm are the memories we've shared through the years: comforting each other inspite of our fears.
Many the secrets and smiles of the past, these special moments will always last.
Goodbye for now my friend, someday we will meet again...
I'm ok now, goodbye my friend

My kids call Shirley "the cat lady", but, I remember her as my mother's best friend for as long as I can recall. Even when I grew up & my mother would visit me, Shirley would call my house at least once a day. "Put your mother on" she would say. She was a great lady & greater still friend to my mom. She will be missed dearly. Jennifer Wehrlen Roth

Dearest Mrs. F.,
Thank you for those unforgettable drives to school! There was nothing quite like "Mrs. Shirl's Wild Ride!" Thank you for providing so many laughs, as well as rapid heartbeats and white knuckles, during those brief, hilarious trips. But mostly, thank you for being an inspiration in the way you cared for every living creature in your life, whether human or feline. You will always be remembered with a smile, which is the mark of a life well-lived. May you rest in peace with the angels.

I worked for my beloved Uncle Tony when I was 8 until I was 13. I remember Shirley like it was yesterday.
She and all the girls there along with my Uncle Tony made working there as a "kid" quite fun.
You have my deepest sympathy and may she rest in peace.
